Young Adult Support
Interchange Illawarra offers support options designed for young adults, aged 18 to 25, with an NDIS plan and low to moderate support needs. Young Adult Support Options are great for school leavers or for young people that have days to fill in between work, study or other committments.
-

Capacity Building
Individual support shifts can be tailored to help you work towards your NDIS goals.
If you'd like to develop your independent living skills, our Support Workers can assist with a range of practical activities, including meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking healthy and delicious meals, and cleaning up afterwards.
Depending on availability, participants can also make use of the fully accessible kitchen at The Wallis Centre to practise and build their skills in a supportive environment.
We can also help you tackle those important ‘life admin’ tasks, as well as other goals that support your independence and wellbeing.
-

Get active
Staying active and maintaining good health is important for everyone, including people with disability.
Regular physical activity can improve strength, mobility, balance, and overall wellbeing, while also supporting mental health, confidence, and independence.
Whether you enjoy going for a walk, swimming, kicking a footy, or having support at your local gym, we can match you with a Support Worker who shares your interests and enjoys being active too.
We can also assist you to attend lessons like karate, or to learn a new skill like surfing.
-

Community Participation
Through community participation, individuals can develop essential life and communication skills, expand their social networks, and enjoy a greater sense of connection and inclusion.
We have lots of suggestions for fun activities undertaken in the community including seeing a movie at the cinema, visiting a local library, learning a musical instrument, visiting the local shops or seeing live music, going to Laser Tag or Flip Out.
So many options! -

Attend an appointment
If you need assistance to attend an appointment (including things like a doctor’s visit, occupational therapy or a check-up at the dentist) we can arrange for a Support Worker to go with you.
All Interchange Illawarra Support Workers have access to a comprehensively insured vehicle and can provide transport for participants. We can also assist with things like going to Service NSW or getting an eye test done.
-

Team up
Sometimes it’s more fun to do things in a team.
If you have the same interests as another young adult participant, we are happy to organise a group outing. You can team up against your Support Workers at an activity like Laser Tag, bowling or electronic darts. Think of a challenge and we’ll do our best to make it happen.
Got something special in mind and would like some company? We can see if any other young adult participants are interested in attending the same event, with you and your Support Worker.
-

Start a business
If you have a great idea for a small business we can help you work on the budget and logistics, assist you to formulate a marketing plan, and support you to sign up for an Australian Business Number (ABN).
We have previously assisted participants to start new enterprises like Carly’s Coffee Couriers and Brayden’s car washing service, Squeaky Clean Cars.
