Volunteering


Interchange Illawarra relies on the valued support of our volunteer/support workers so that families

can be offered quality respite. All it takes is for you to have some spare time, some enthusiasm

and ideas that will make a difference and enhance the lives of many.

Volunteering will enable you to:
• Build confidence and self esteem
• Improve career opportunities
• Access training in fi elds you never thought of
• Develop new skills and allow you to use existing ones
• Develop a new understanding about people with disabilities
• Have fun

Interchange Illawarra provides volunteers/support workers with:

• Reimbursement of expenses
• Flexibility
• Recognised industry experience

Host volunteering

There are a wide range of hosting options, from sharing a full weekend per month down to sharing

a few hours with a child or young person with a disability. there are also many different hosting roles- as

an additional and important second family to a child, a supportive friend or mentor, or as a buddy who

shares a common interest. Whatever your hosting contribution you know you will be making a posisitve

difference to the lives of everyone involved, especially your own.

Social Support- Group Based Volunteering

Interchange Illawarra run social support groups for different age groups both through the day and

evenings and also weekends away and short holidays. Our Saturplay program provides support to

children from 4 to 12 years of age with Autism and/or challenging behaviour, and our Peer Support

groups offer support to people with a developmental disability who have low to moderate support

needs in age appropriate groups. If you have plenty of energy, enthusiasm for working with people

and are willing to give some time then we want to hear from you!
