Staff
Interchange Illawarra employs a number of fulltime and part time staff whose primary role is the provision of management,
coordination and/or administration of respite support to families and carers. These positions include managers, respite
coordinators and administration officers
Support Worker
Interchange Illawarra employs a number of part time or casual support workers whose primary role is the provision of
direct respite support to people with disabilities on a paid basis. These workers may be used to support people with
disabilities, their carers and families at short notice in ‘one off’ or emergency care situations or be linked to provide regular
ongoing respite support
Rights of Volunteer/Support Workers
Interchange Illawarra Inc. recognises that volunteers and support workers are an integral part of
the service and have the right to:
- get job satisfaction
- participate in an orientation course before commencing with Interchange Illawarra
- be given opportunities to gain further knowledge if disabiltiies issues, if the so desire
- be informed about the organisation, policies, procedures and programs
- receive sound guidance and direction from someone who is experienced, well informed and who has the the time to invest in giving guidance
- be involved in planning some aspects of the program and evalusating the program
- be recognised for the valuable contribution they make
- be protected and maintain personal safety
- be adequately informed about prospective consumers so that they can make an informed decision about care
- say 'no' to a consumer or placement
- complain about any aspect of the service that they are unhappy with through a Greivance procedure without fear of retribution
- receive ongoing supervision and support from staff and the Management Committee
- be assured personal information is kept confidential
Interchange Illawarra Inc. also recognises that volunteers have the right to be:
- treated as co-workers
- reimbursed to ensure they are not financially disadvantaged
and support workers have the right:
- To be paid in accordance with award rates
