Management Committee

Interchange Illawarra is governed by an elected Management Committee of community volunteers who have an interest in

supporting people with disabilities, their carers and families.

The Management Committee includes parents and carers, disability services professionals, volunteers, interested

community representatives and a range people with business expertise. This group brings a wealth of business and

disability services experience to our organisation.

The role of the Management Committee is to provide strategic vision and leadership to the organisation.

People with disabilities, their carers and families and other interested parties are encouraged to nominate for the

Management Committee.  Membership of Interchange Illawarra is a prerequisite to nomination.

Staff and Leadership Team

Our Management Committee entrusts responsibility for the operational and financial leadership of Interchange Illawarra

to the General Manager and Operations Manager, who are support by all staff and volunteers of the organisation.

Workforce Structure

Interchange Illawarra is supported by around 350 staff, support workers and volunteer providing in-home and out-of-home

respite, peer support and social support providing assistance for leisure, recreation and group activities. All staff, support

workers and volunteers are screened, reference checked, complete orientation and induction and undertake other relevant

training such as; first aid and disability-specific training.

Staff

Interchange Illawarra employs a number of fulltime and part time staff whose primary role is the provision of management,

coordination and/or administration of respite support to families and carers. These positions include managers, respite

coordinators and administration officers.


Support Worker

Interchange Illawarra employs a number of part time or casual support workers whose primary role is the provision of direct

respite support to people with disabilities on a paid basis. These workers may be used to support people with disabilities,

their carers and families at short notice in ‘one off’ or emergency care situations or be linked to provide regular ongoing

respite support.


Volunteer

Interchange Illawarra is supported by many volunteers who are registered to provide respite support through the Host

Flexible and Peer Support Programs in an unpaid capacity. Interchange Illawarra reimburses volunteers for out of

pocket expenses incurred whilst providing respite support. Volunteers are provided the opportunity to become casual

or part time workers with Interchange Illawarra after they have completed all required training and gain relevant experience.
